PUDDLE PUTS IT ON THE PODIUM – IN THE NKRA FORMULA BLUE CHALLENGE 2024

Posted on by Julie

Joey Foster, despite suffering an engine failure whilst in the lead of the Final of Round 5 of the NKRA Formula Blue Challenge at Fulbeck, remains in the Championship lead, albeit by 1` point. Rich Puddle won both the Final and the day on 3 points. Anthony Cleal, who was right behind Foster missed the chicane whilst taking avoiding action. Being the consummate professional and knowing the implications, he moved over allowing Puddle through, thereby avoiding any penalties. Cleal finished 2nd in the Final and 2nd on the day with 4 points, closing down Foster to 1 point in the process.  Paul Alexander, racing really well at the moment, finished the day in 3rd on the track and 3rd  overall.  After a very poor start to the Championship Alexander is steadily moving up the positions and now sits in 11th spot.  Despite a mixed day,  Callum Jobson holds on to 3rd in the championship.  Steve Groves moves up to 4th , passing James Dawkins, who failed to make it to Fulbeck.  New racer Toby Tozer,  having to start every heat at the back had a brilliant opening meeting and jumps straight into 28th spot as a consequence.
Puddle also won the Master sub-class, by 1 point from Cleal.  Alexander finished on 8 points,  1 point ahead of Foster, with Leanne McShane coming home in 5th on 10 points.   The Lead now changes in this group, with Cleal 2 points ahead of Foster.  Dawkins hangs on to 3rd spot,  although only 1 points ahead of  Steve Groves.   Stuart Gray, who unfortunately had to retire from the start of the Final holds on to 5th place overall.
Cleal dominated the Veteran sub-section with a pole to flag win.  Second on the day was Alexander on 4 points.  Groves, with 7 points, finished 3rd  in the points.   Behind him David Waldron and Ron shone tied on 10 points.  So, Cleal extends his lead in the Championship over Groves and Gray.  Waldron moves up to 4th and Alexander up to 5th, displacing Rob Mortimore who was found to be 0.5 kg underweight at the post-race scrutineering.
Shone has made a race out of the Legend sub-group, capitalising on the withdrawal of Gray
( following the afore mentioned bent rear axle) and closes him down to 1 point.   Third on the day was Graham Joseph with David Goode in 4th
Alexander won the Top weight section, scoring 2 points on the day, with Alex Fortune directly behind on 3 points.  Shone finished the day in 3rd with Rob Mortimore ending up with the pain of the ‘under-weight’ exclusion.  In the Championship standings, Fortune maintains his lead on 8 points.  Alexander and Mortimore share 2nd spot, though Alexander is placed 2nd on count back.  Shone brings up 4th place with Stuart Adam in 5th.
Jacob Felton takes a clean sweep in the Junior Blue class and extends his lead over Alfie Lenton in the standings.
The Championship now moves on to the Whilton Mill  Circuit for the penultimate round on June 30th, with entries closing on  June 22nd

THE DRAMATIC RETURN OF JAMIE WATTS

Posted on by Julie

Jamie Watts ( Ex. Junior Blue front runner of many years ago !) returns to the Formula Blue Championship with a dramatic result. Despite having to start on ‘black plates’ ( the NKRA regulation where more than five years have elapsed since last competing) and rear of grid start in all three heats, he qualified on Pole! No mean feat since all the front runners ( less Stuart Gray and Rich Puddle) were present.
Then to emphasise his dominance on the day, he led from the lights to take a stunning win. Joey Foster (the Series leader) snatched 2nd place from Anthony Cleal ( Current no. 1) on the penultimate lap but had to give the place back following a 5 second penalty for a dislodged nose cone. So, Cleal finished 2nd on the day with 5 points, Foster and Callum Jobson shared 3rd place with 7 points, although Foster gets the ‘nod ‘ by virtue of count back. 5th on the day was James Dawkins. Once the points were collated, Foster remains in the overall Series lead with 14 points. Cleal moves up from 4th to 2nd. Jobson also moves up from 5th to 3rd and Dawkins moves up to 4th, with Steve Groves 5th, so completing the top five. Harry Smithson, who was challenging the lead, was well on the leading pace but suffered total brake failure in a heat. Efforts to fit a speed Calliper ( possible the best brake in Karting ) to his kart without the necessary bracket proved unsuccessful, consequently he was unable to take part in the Final.
Jamie Watts won the day in the Master sub-class from Cleal, Foster , Dawkins and Russell O’Neill. It is Foster, however, who leads the Championship from Cleal, Dawkins, Groves and absentee, Stuart Gray.
In the Veteran section, Cleal takes a minimum points win from a rejuvenated Paul Alexander. Dave Waldron and Ron Shone shared 3rd place on points but count back gave the position to Waldron. Rob Mortimore finished the day in 5th. In the Championship standings, Cleal takes over the lead followed by Groves with Gray, Mortimore and Waldron bringing up the top 5.

Alexander, back to his former fast levels, took the Top Weight section with a clean sweep in points. Alex Fortune claimed 2nd place from Shone, following a Final where the two of them regularly swapped position, often side-by-side. Mortimore finished 4th with Dean Smithers in 5th spot. In the standings, Fortune retains his lead from Mortimore though Alexander ( by virtue of the absence of Stuart Adam) jumps up to 3rd overall. Shone stays in 4th and Adam slips to 5th.

In the Junior Blue class, the newly crowned ‘0’ plate Champion Jacob Felton took an uncontested win, placing him in the Championship lead from Alfie Lenton, the current number 1 plate.

A much improved Devon Giles, cemented his front position in the Cadet Honda class with a clear win.

Drivers now have just under three weeks before round 5 of the Championship at Fulbeck. It will be a break much needed in order to clean and prepare their equipment following the ‘filthy’ state of the equipment after the very wet race weekend at Dunkeswell.

TABOR CHAMPS UPDATE – MAY ’24

Posted on by Julie

Anthony Cleal wins the Dunkeswell Round to claim the highest points score for May, thereby extending his overall lead. Joey Foster finished the month with the 2nd best score and moves up from 4th to 3rd in the points standings. Returnee, Russell O’Neill scored 16 points, also at Dunkeswell, and races into the overall list in 12th position in the Championship. Alex Kemp bettered his Lydd score by 1 point to come 4th in the month, moving up from equal 20th to 11th in the points.
The top five for May was reached by Alex Fortune, who as a consequence takes over the runner-up position.
